¹⁹ But the people refused to listen to Samuel. They said, “No! We want a king over us! ²⁰ Then we will be like every other nation, with a king to lead us and to go out before us to fight in our battles.”

²¹ When Samuel heard everything that the people had said, he repeated it to the Lord.
